Experience ancient Egypt at a deep discount as the Michael C. Carlos Museum of Emory presents Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs, opening on Nov. 15, 2008 and running through May 2009 at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center.
Less than five miles from Emory's main campus, visitors can experience the awe-inspiring, ancient art of Egypt. The exhibit features over 130 extraordinary objects including many from the region, as well as treasures from the most significant pharaohs who ruled the Nile throughout 2,000 years of history.
Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs will include not only extraordinary finds from the tomb of Tutankhamun and other tombs in the Valley of the Kings but also from temples, palaces and other ancient Egyptian sites. These magnificent artworks range in size from tiny intricately carved jewels to the colossal 10-foot statue of King Tutankhamun, himself.
Can't make it downtown to the Civic Center? Emory's Michael C. Carlos Museum has a companion exhibit, Wonderful Things: The Harry Burton Photographs and the Discovery of the Tomb of Tutankhamun, on display in conjunction with the presentation at the Civic Center. Carlos Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.; Sunday, 12 to 5 p.m. The Museum is closed on Mondays. For more information, visit the Carlos Museum web site.
