Druid Hills High School expansionDruid Hills High School, one of the oldest high schools in DeKalb County recently completed major renovations to its campus.

With renovations almost finalized, administrators at the school are planning an open house on Saturday, Jan. 9 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. to showcase new classrooms and the new sciences building to parents and community members. All are invited to see the enhancements as DHHS will provide guided tours, light refreshments and fun for all ages.

Some improvements were already made to the main building last summer, including renovating the main floor, music area, gym and Media Center.

"We are very excited about the opening of our new sciences building," said Principal Mindee Adamson. "The new building will provide students the opportunity to learn in state-of-the-art science classrooms. There are also three new computer labs providing teachers and students throughout the campus additional computer access."

As DHHS science teachers move into the newly constructed building, renovation will begin on the bottom floor of the main existing building. After completion of the bottom floor, teachers on the top floor will move down to the bottom floor and improvements will begin on the top floor. Renovation of the top floor will complete the redevelopment of the DHHS main building. The entire project is expected to be complete before the beginning of the 2010/2011 school year.

On the Auction Block

The DHHS Athletic Foundation and PTSA will host their second annual auction to help students continue to excel in DeKalb County. In the face of economic hardships and tightening budgets, DHHS parents, staff and students look forward to the fun of the online Fun & Gains auction opening Sunday, Jan. 24 and continuing through Jan. 31. An exclusive, Fun & Gains celebration will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the Cox Hall Ballroom on Emory's Campus.

What's for sale? Among the offerings are restaurant certificates, crafts, dinners and artwork from DHHS families, widely-popular 'reserved seats' for DHHS graduation, and new this year -- a chance for one student to assume the role of a faculty or staff member at the school for one day.
