One person’s trash is truly another person’s treasure.

Most people loathe moving day. But for some local refugees, moving day at Emory couldn’t come soon enough.

Instead of hauling unwanted belongings to campus or community dumpsters, many Emory students donated these items to local nonprofits to benefit newly-arrived refugee families. Clothing, bedding, books, rugs and anything else found in a college dorm room filled trucks and vans near capacity.

Organized by Volunteer Emory, Emory Recycles and Residence Life & Housing, “Don’t Dump It, Donate It” is held annually at the end of the school year. The program helps make the connection between students who are leaving campus and discarding unwanted items, and refugees who have recently relocated to Atlanta and desperately need those items.

Planning to spring clean soon? “Don’t Dump It, Donate It” by calling Volunteer Emory at 404.727.6268 or by contributing to one of the following local refugee aid organizations:
•International Rescue Committee
•Lutheran Services of Georgia
•RRISA (Refugee Resettlement & Immigration Services of Atlanta) •World Relief Atlanta
