Looking for another reason to visit Emory Village?

Emory recently announced plans to relocate and consolidate several of its campus bookstores to one new central facility on North Oxford Road, on what is currently the B. Jones parking lot. The store will include book selections for general audiences and academic books, a "campus living room" area with lounge seating, possibly a fireplace, and an attached coffee shop. The store will also sell Emory branded apparel and other souvenirs.

The move is expected to boost foot-traffic near Emory Village in light of the fact that most students will need to purchase their academic books in the new facility. It will house three bookstores that are currently at separate locations (the main bookstore at Dobbs University Center; the medical school bookstore; and the academic bookstore, currently on North Oxford Drive).

In addition to the bookstore, which will have its main entrance on North Oxford Road, the new building will include expanded space for Emory's Office of Admissions and a new Emory Career Center. There will also be a new parking deck, which will be surrounded by the administrative space and bookstore, and largely encapsulated from view by the new building. The roof of the parking deck is envisioned as a half-acre, green plaza, with trees, grass and will be open to the public.

The new parking will be a welcomed addition for patrons of Emory Village. After Emory's business hours, the University is offering to open the parking lot for free to visitors and Emory Village shoppers.

The building footprint will be generally confined to the existing B. Jones parking lot, consistent with Emory's Land Classification Plan. Development is expected to begin next summer and the building is expected to be complete by August 2008.
