Holiday Merriment Marks the Clifton Community

It's getting darker earlier, temperatures are dropping and the smell of cinnamon flavored apple cider is filling the air. That must mean one thing -- the holiday season has arrived! Here are a few holiday events to consider:

2008 Decatur Tour of Homes
Decatur Holiday Candlelight Tour of Homes
Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6 from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m.
Take a look inside some of Decatur's most interesting homes. This year's tour includes homes with a "Living Green" theme that features eco-friendly gardening and composite siding. Take Emory's alternatively fueled shuttle, Cliff, from home to home and to several points of interest along the way. Advance tickets are $20 with proceeds benefiting the Decatur Youth Fund and the Decatur Preservation Alliance.

• Father Christmas' Favorite Music
Sunday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. at the Michael C. Carlos Museum, Reception Hall
England's Santa Claus makes a personal appearance to hand out holiday treats and hear some of his favorite chamber music played by the Vega Quartet.

• Emory Wind Ensemble
Sunday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. at the Schwartz Center, Emerson Concert Hall
Conducted by Scott Stewart, the Emory Wind Ensemble is dedicated to the study and performance of literature for wind bands.
This is a free concert.

• Fieldwork Showcase
Sunday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. at the Schwartz Center, Dance Studio
Fieldwork showcases new works created by community artists in various disciplines. Tickets can be purchased for $7 at the door.

• The Atlanta Celtic Christmas Concert
Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 14 at 2:30 p.m. at the Schwartz Center, Emerson Concert Hall
This popular event features the rollicking high spirits and mystical beauty of Celtic and Appalachian music, dance, poetry, song and story with Grammy winner Alison Brown on banjo, John Doyle on guitar and vocals, The Buddy O'Reilly Band, Irish, Scottish & Southern Clog Dancers choreographed by Lisa Cregan O'Brien and other musical guests.
Tickets for the public are $25; patrons under 18, over 65 and other discount members $20.

• Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony
Monday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. at the Schwartz Center, Emerson Concert Hall
Directed by Scott Stewart, the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony is made up of a select group of high school wind and percussion instrumentalists in the area and performs the best of traditional and contemporary wind band literature.
This is a free concert.

• The Light Before Christmas animated IMAX® film
Daily shows through Jan. 4, 2009 at Fernbank Museum
Experience the holiday film featuring the Christmas Eve story of two children who are rescued from the cold by the Candleman. Magically, the children become characters in the poem, "The Night Before Christmas," and experience the ultimate holiday thrill in this animated IMAX® film.
