Extreme Makeover: School Edition

Dust is flying at Druid Hills High School (DHHS) as construction workers embark on major renovations to improve classroom conditions and parking facilities at the high school.
Construction began in December with the closing of the main driveway and the staff parking lot located in front of the school. Since then, the new main vehicle entrance has been completed and construction has begun on the addition to DHHS.
The new two-story building will sit in front of the current north building and will include two new computer labs, two general classrooms and eight state-of-the-art science classrooms. Two administrative offices and a conference room will also be added. The project is scheduled for completion in July.
Following that, the main building will get a major face-lift that will include a complete HVAC upgrade, carpet replacement, new paint, knocking down walls to expand classrooms and upgrades to the teacher's lounge.
Did you know?
• In 1997, DHHS became the first charter school in DeKalb County; the charter ended in 2002 and was not renewed.
• Ninety percent of DHHS students go on to pursue post-secondary education or training.
• In 2004, DHHS received acceptance into the International Baccalaureate program, a two-year program for upper classmen wanting an academic challenge and a diploma recognized by universities around the world.
