CCTMA Open House Examined Transit Options and Routes
May 29, 2008
Source: Community Partnership Update/March 2007
The Clifton Corridor Transportation Management Association (CCTMA) held an open house Feb. 8 to examine five enhanced transit corridors that have the potential to increase connectivity to the many activity centers in and around the Clifton community, as well as provide connectivity to the rest of the Atlanta region. These corridors include:
•Central corridor–from Sage Hill to Emory campus/Hospital complex;
•Decatur corridor–from Emory campus/Hospital complex to Decatur MARTA station;
•Lindbergh corridor–from Sage Hill to Lindbergh MARTA station;
•Briarcliff corridor–from Sage Hill to Briarcliff campus; and
•CSX/NS rail corridor–from Lawrenceville to downtown Atlanta via Tucker, Emory campus and Atlantic Station, using existing rail lines.
Open house participants were asked their opinions on potential stop locations along these corridors, as well as how to rank the corridors based on their assessment of the following categories:
•Accessibility–ability of people to access good and services, use different modes and reach different destinations;
•Mobility–relative ease or difficulty with which the trip is made;
•Economic development–the system as a prerequisite for business activity;
•Quality of life–aesthetics, sense of community and general sense of satisfaction; and
•Operational efficiency–efficiency with which resources are used to produce a given level of transportation output.
Additionally, participants were asked their assessment of the type of technology used for each of the various corridors among choices of modern streetcars, light rail or bus for local circulation service. Modern streetcar technology was overwhelmingly preferred as the mode for providing this service.
