Sustainability article:
Extra Credit Makes Emory a 'Cool School'
August 25, 2009
Source: Community Partnership Update/September 2009
In August, Emory University received an "Extra Credit" rating in Sierra Magazine's third annual “Cool Schools” list that ranks planet-preserving colleges and universities.
Emory received "Extra Credit" because in metro Atlanta, roughly 50 acres of open space are lost each day, and the University has designated 54 percent of its campus as off-limits to development. Emory was also recognized for its policy that every tree removed to make room for a new building (which must be LEED certified), requires a new one to be planted.
