Governor Taps Emory Leaders for Expertise
October 28, 2009
Source: Community Partnership Update/November 2009
Georgia recently suffered a significant loss in litigation regarding the state's ability to use Lake Lanier as a source for water. State leaders continue to focus their efforts on reversing that outcome, whether through appeal, negotiations or Congressional action.
Gov. Sonny Perdue selected President and CEO of Emory Healthcare, John Fox, and Executive Director of the Clifton Community Partnership and Senior Associate Vice President for Governmental and Community Affairs for Emory, Betty Willis, to serve on a statewide Water Task Force to focus on developing a plan to close the gap between water supply and water need. This Water Task Force is a partnership between the Governor's Office, Georgia's business and civic leaders and other key stakeholders.
Additionally, Gov. Perdue recently announced executive appointments and Emory's leadership was front and center. Emory's Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, Mike Mandl, was appointed to the State Properties Commission. The Georgia State Properties Commission is responsible for the acquisition and disposition of all state-owned real property and all real property interests; they are also responsible for the inventory of all state-owned and leased real property. The University's Senior Vice President of General Counsel, Kent Alexander, was appointed to the State Ethics Commission. The State Ethics Commission enforces the laws under its jurisdiction through discreet investigative proceedings and open hearings.
