Sustainability article:
Commuters Connect for Clean Air

With gas prices fluctuating over the last couple of years, many commuters are turning to alternative methods of traveling to keep costs down and to get to and from work and school.
Last month, Emory University -- a partner in the Clifton Corridor Transportation Management Association (CCTMA) -- won the Clean Air Campaign ® PACE Award for its overall transportation program and services. As the "Large Business" PACE Award winner, Emory was recognized for the overall commitment to sustainability and as an innovator in incorporating commute alternatives into campus culture.
Many of Emory's 23,000 employees use commute alternatives and take advantage of more than 70 designated parking spaces for carpools/vanpools and a $51 subsidy for transit and vanpool fares. Emory runs a fleet of alternatively fueled shuttle buses that carry 2.5 million passengers a year. Since some students and staffers prefer to get around on two wheels, Emory's bike share program gives students, faculty and staff free, easy, access to bikes and helmets to use while on campus. The University also offers a car sharing service, Zipcar, so that alternative commuters can have access to a vehicle during the day if needed.
