Five Questions article:
Five Questions with Candler Vinson, local student with a community Eagle Scout project at Burbanck Park

Source: Community Partnership Update/April 2008
1.You are a high school junior at The Galloway School, a lifelong Druid Hills resident, and a prospective Eagle Scout, how did the Burbanck Park project come to your attention?
I live near the park site and often walk past the former Burbanck home on my way to Emory Village. As I was investigating potential Eagle Scout community projects, I saw the sign in the park and thought it might make a great volunteer project.
2. What does your Eagle Scout project entail?
To improve accessibility to the park, I am going to work with friends, community volunteers and fellow Scouts from my troop at Glenn Memorial Chapel to build a path that will run along the northeast side of the park along Oxford Road. Since this park is designed to remain as natural as possible, the path will be constructed with granite fines instead of asphalt. At some point, the hope is that park benches may be added.
Since its inception in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than 1.7 million young men.
3. How does this project fit into your Eagle Scout program?
In addition to demonstrating troop leadership and earning merit badges, the community project is a major part of the program. Once the Atlanta area council approves my plan, I hope to begin the project in late March or early April.
4. When will the public be able to see your project and park improvements?
My project should be completed in April, and I understand that in May there will be a Burbanck Park phase I dedication to celebrate all of the early projects.
5. What are your plans after you graduate next year?
I’m looking at colleges now and Emory’s on my list.
