CCTMA Celebrates 10 Years

Blow out the candles and sound the bell! This year, the Clifton Corridor Transportation Management Association (CCTMA) marks its 10th year of working collectively with other transportation management associations in the region to address common transportation concerns in the Clifton area.
Over the course of a decade, the CCTMA has worked together with advocacy groups to improve traffic accessibility and mobility, share services, improve air quality and mitigate traffic congestion by promoting various forms of alternative transportation.
“We work cooperatively with The Clean Air Campaign, Atlanta Regional Commission’s 1-87-RIDEFIND and many other related agencies to encourage participation in alternative commuter options,” said Adele Clements, executive director of CCTMA. “Commute options include carpooling, vanpooling, riding transit and biking or walking. Over the years, the CCTMA has successfully helped remove roughly 3,000 cars daily from Clifton area roads through our programs and services.”
1-87-RIDEFIND is a ridematching service that maintains a database of individuals who work in the region and have expressed a desire to commute to work via carpool or vanpool. This commuter database uses a person’s home address, work address and work hours to find others who live and work near them and who have similar schedules.
The CCTMA provides assistance to employer members located within a three-mile radius from the intersection of Clifton Road and Haygood Drive. By also serving as director of transportation for Emory, Clements helps the University lead the CCTMA in developing and providing services to various hospitals, non-profit organizations and government agencies in the Clifton community. Other members of the CCTMA include:
•Emory University Hospital
•Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
•Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston
•Emory Conference Center Hotel
•The University Inn
•City of Decatur
•Ben Franklin Academy
•Veterans Affairs Medical Center
•Veterans Affairs Regional Office
•Wesley Woods Center
“One of the goals for the CCTMA is to provide better connectivity to transit,” said Clements. The CCTMA is working closely with MARTA to explore the need for connections between Clifton Road and the Lindbergh Center MARTA station.
For more information about the possible Lindbergh Center to Emory connection, visit http://www.itsmarta.com/newsroom/planstudy.htm. At press time, there were no public meetings scheduled for this connection.
What’s down the road for the CCTMA? They will continue to work in conjunction with MARTA to identify a locally preferred transportation alternative for the Clifton community – this process is called an alternatives analysis. Upon completion of the alternatives analysis, a transportation alternative (heavy rail, light rail, bus, etc.) will be selected as part of a public involvement process to be advanced in the area.
