Design Prescription - Just What the Doctor Ordered

Thought leaders in architecture, planning and public health are increasingly exploring relationships between our physical environment (neighborhoods, towns and public spaces) obesity and other emerging health issues. “Design Prescription” is a fascinating exhibit at the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) and was organized by the museum and the American Institute of Architects Atlanta Chapter (AIA). It features possible solutions for effectively redeveloping the city.

By using Atlanta’s most pressing health problems (asthma, obesity and diabetes) as a springboard, “Design Prescription” offers smart, design-based solutions for what “ails the city.” Examining the impact of regional growth models, urban design, and architecture and material sciences, design professionals can create conditions enabling people to live healthier lifestyles.

The free exhibit is sponsored by Emory Healthcare and the Woodruff Health Sciences Center and runs through August 15 at MODA, 285 Peachtree Center Ave. (exit using the Peachtree Center Station on MARTA). For more information about this event, visit www.museumofdesign.org.
