Why Not Bike?

The first phases of an Emory bicycle program are kicking off this summer that will promote cycling and encourage students, employees and local residents to use their bikes instead of their cars.

Fuji bikes, an international cycling company, is working with Emory on a pilot program that will include a joint website to promote cycling safety and provide information on cycling events, promotions and discounts on bikes and safety equipment. The site (www.bike.emory.edu) is expected to launch in mid-July. Emory is highlighting this program for its incoming freshman class, who are not able to register vehicles on campus.
The working arrangement will also include Bicycle South, a local retail outlet for cyclists located at Clairmont and North Decatur roads. Bicycle South is offering a mobile repair shop that will travel to Emory’s Clairmont and main campuses weekly. Cyclists can drop off their bikes for repairs and return to pick them up later the same week.

The University is also contemplating a bike loaner program that will allow faculty, staff and students to reserve a bike, similar to Emory’s popular Flexcar program, where those who do not have a car on campus can reserve one for personal use.
