CCTMA Study

In September 2006 the Clifton Corridor Transportation Management Association (CCTMA) initiated a feasibility study to develop transit strategies for improving mobility and regional access to and around the Clifton community. The study wrapped up in April 2007 and examined five corridors:
  • Central corridor - From Sage Hill to Emory Campus/Hospital Complex to provide connectivity to Emory's campus to the intersection of Clifton and Briarcliff roads.
  • Decatur corridor - From Emory Campus/Hospital Complex to Decatur MARTA station to provide connectivity to Emory's main campus, the Clairmont campus to the Decatur MARTA station via Clarimont Road.
  • Lindbergh corridor - From Sage Hill to Lindbergh MARTA station to provide connectivity to the Lindbergh MARTA station via LaVista Road to the end of the Central campus route.
  • Briarcliff corridor - From Sage Hill to Briarcliff Campus to provide connectivity to the Briarcliff campus via Briarcliff Road from the end of the central and Lindbergh routes.
  • CSX/NS Rail corridor - From downtown Lawrenceville to downtown Atlanta to operate on existing freight rail lines through Gwinnett, DeKalb and Fulton counties to downtown Atlanta via CSX right-of-way through the Clifton community and Norfolk Southern right-of-way metropolitan Atlanta.
Conclusion of the feasibility study is pending finalization of the technical and final reports. Recommendations from the final report will be considered for advancement through Alternatives Analysis. The CCTMA has a federal earmark to conduct an alternatives analysis of transit in the Clifton community following the completion of the feasibility study. The alternatives analysis process is detailed study of alternative transportation improvements to address specific issues in a corridor. All feasible alternatives are investigated, and the best approach is selected for implementation. An Alternatives Analysis was required by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) as the first step in the Environmental Impact Statement process before Major Investment Studies.

The CCTMA is working with MARTA on the rail segment connecting Lindbergh station to the Clifton community as part of the alternatives analysis.
