Emory Health Sciences Redevelopment Project
|
In June 2011, the Emory Healthcare, Woodruff Health Sciences Center, and Emory University Boards
approved the site for a proposed Emory University Hospital bed tower, new operating rooms, and
emergency room. The new facility will be located on Clifton Road across from the current hospital in
front of The Emory Clinic Building B.
This building will include:
- 210 new patient beds (Note: 82 beds in the current hospital building will be retired, for a net
addition of 128 beds at the hospital);
- A new and expanded emergency room, with easier access for patients;
- New operating rooms; and
- Ingress and egress improvements to the health care facilities.
The Boards also approved the expenditures needed to begin the planning, programming, and
due diligence activities to support the bed tower and a number of enabling projects - such as site
preparation, utilities services, ingress/egress improvements, and parking enhancements.
These expansions and improvements are made possible largely by the generous support of the Robert
W. Woodruff Foundation, enabling Emory to create a center of healing in which physicians, nurses, and
scientists will provide an ideal patient-centered experience supported by the power of translational
research.
These new facilities will enable Emory physicians to deliver better patient-centered care. They will also
create opportunities for improved access, patient safety, and enhanced efficiency - which are beneficial
to patients and their loved ones, as well as the skilled physicians and nursing staff providing care at the
bedside each day.
These preliminary steps will continue to assist with mapping out the redevelopment and
enhancement of Emory University Hospital and the surrounding medical campus, to enable the delivery
of the best, most compassionate care.
Additional approvals will be required at the state and local levels over the next several months. Patients,
physicians, staff, employees, local community, and stakeholders are encouraged to check back with
Emory and the Clifton Community Partnership for details of the ongoing developments.
